God is Speaking

Updated: Jan 20, 2024

God is speaking all the time.

He speaks in many different ways and it is usually not English.

Some of the ways He speaks to us is through His Word, His creation, His children and through things His children create.

We were each created to create because we were created in His image and He is the Great Creator.

God's voice is the catalyst for everything in life because it is His Words that brought everything into existence. The amazing part of this is that we get to partner with Him to bring His voice into all we do. We get to create in accordance with His design and kingdom.

God is speaking all the time but we have an enemy that is working to distort, silence, and override the voice of God. According to John 10:10 the enemy has come to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. One of the ways he the enemy seeks to accomplish this is by placing roadblocks to us hearing and receiving the life-giving, life-transforming word of God.

What can we do to make sure we are hearing the voice of God?

  • Cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). In other words. align every thought you have with the truth of Gods word. Make sure what you believe and thus speak actually aligns with the truth of God. Ask Him to expose any lies you are believing and to bring His truth to replace it. As you set your heart to hear His truth, know His truth, and speak His truth, He will speak!

  • In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:6). Learn to acknowledge God in everything you do. Start out every morning before your feet hit the ground saying, "Good morning Lord! I acknowledge You and invite You into every aspect of my day. Direct my words, thoughts, and actions today leading me on the path that You have for me. Speak to me Lord, I am listening;" (create a prayer and declaration in your own words to set your heart and ears to hear and respond to the Lord.)

  • Jesus gives an illustration in John 10 portraying that He is our good shepherd and the good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. We are His sheep and in His illustration He teaches that "the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." So, declare today that, "I know the voice of my Shepherd, and the voice of a stranger I will not hear!" "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit" (Prov. 18:21)! Determine to speak life and thus produce good fruit!

  • Create opportunities throughout your day to stop, take a few deep breaths in and out, become aware of His presence, and ask Him to speak to you. Take a walk, looking around for something that makes you smile and recognize that God is speaking to you. Whether through a beautiful flower, a butterfly, the sweet voice of a child running and playing. Remember that God created it all and it is all meant to speak to you.

  • Sometimes it takes silencing all the other voices to give God time to speak. Recognize what hinders you from hearing Him or from taking the time to listen and come up with a plan to change it. Perhaps it is unbelief that He will speak. Fear of what He may say. Take every hindering thought that arises and exchange it for a truth from God. Ask Him to expose the lies you are believing and then ask Him for truth to replace every lie.

  • Expectation is key as you pursue hearing and responding to the voice of God. Expect Him to speak to you!

You can engage with the voice of God as you tune your ears to hear through all the ways He speaks!
